Review of Master’s Hammer and Chisel Program!

Woot! I did it! I finished the 60-day Master’s Hammer and Chisel program from Beachbody! To be honest, I wasn’t quite sure how I would like this program because I tend to be a cardio lover. In order for me to feel like I got a good workout, I like to be huffing and puffing and drenched in sweat after my workout… that makes me feel awesome! I really wasn’t sure how a lifting program would make me feel or how my results would be, BUT I stuck to it and trusted the program.

So, here are my thoughts about the program overall!

The Workouts

First of all, I LOVED the workouts! I fell in love with lifting, which I wasn’t sure I would! And the crazy thing is, is that after most of my workouts I WAS huffing and puffing and dripping in sweat! I loved the variety of the workouts. The program comes with 12 different workouts so I felt like there was a huge variety and I never got bored. There are two trainers also; Sagi Kalev aka “The Hammer” and Autumn Calabrese aka “The Chisel”. The Hammer workouts were more focused on heaving lifting/fewer reps, while the Chisel workouts were a bit lighter weights/more reps. There was also a variety of balance, agility and core workouts too and I definitely felt like every part of my body was being worked. The workouts ranged from 25-45 minutes, which is perfect for my busy life.


Equipment Needed

The program suggests using a bench, pull up bar and a variety of weights. I stuck with a exercise ball, resistance bands and interchangeable weights and it worked out just great! I found that I mostly used 10, 15 and 20’s dumbbells, but by the end I was using up to 30 pound dumbells. The interchangeable weights are a great route to go, although it was a bit annoying to have to switch them in and out all the time. Instead of using a pull up bar, I used a resistance band and put it in a door jam. Instead of using a bench I either did the exercise on the floor or on a exercise ball. I did also use my stairs sometimes when stepping up;  instead of stepping on the bench, I would step up my stairs. Hey, it wasn’t perfect, but you really don’t need a bunch of fancy equipment to get results!




For the program you use 7 little color-coded containers that help with portion control and balance. I actually love these little guys! I think they make it so simple to get the right things/amounts into my body. They definitely make you more mindful of what you eat and how much you are eating. The meal plan really is straight forward and I loved that I didn’t have to count calories … counting colors is much easier for me! There was plenty of food and I never felt overly hungry. Shakeology also helped a LOT! It was so nice to be able to have something sweet that tasted like a splurge everyday, but in fact is insanely healthy! I did amazing with the meal plan at first, then I fell off a bit due to traveling and vacation, but got back on at the end. I’m sure I would’ve gotten better results if I were 100% the whole time, but I guess that is life :p

Lo and behold, it did work! Sadly I started the program when I was on vacation and I wrote my measurements in my phone then got a new phone and lost all the info so I don’t know the exact inches I lost, but I did lose 5 pounds 🙂


I feel STRONGER! I feel more powerful! I totally pushed myself out of my comfort zone, which felt a bit uncomfortable, but good! I proved to myself that I could do something really hard. I have definition in my arms for the first time EVER! I have PCOS so losing weight is really, really hard, especially in my stomach. My stomach has definitely tightened up though and I feel more toned overall. My pants are lose and I just feel better wearing clothes. So although my pictures may not look too different, I feel different! I definitely want to keep doing this program and increase my weights to see what else I can accomplish!


Here are also a few of the pictures from some of the awesome ladies in my Test Group! These two ladies each lost over 10 inches overall!!

I would definitely recommend this program to both men and women. It is not an easy program, but it will get you results, inside and out, if you follow it.
